Home Sweet Home - $10 Block of the Month

We had a blast on our $10 Block of the Month Road Trip and we finally made it home! The year brought us around the USA, with each block representing a state. We had so much fun every month coming up with factoids about each "destination" and dressing up!

Congratulations to everyone who finished!! We have a few suggestions if you're wondering how to put yours together:
  • For the bright version, cut sashing at 2.5" and the border at 3".
  • We set the neutral version on point. This requires you to make one additional block (13 total). We cut the sashing at 2.5". The corner triangles are 15.5" squares cut in half and the side triangles are a 20" square cut in quarters.

What better way to back your quilt than with this wonderful state fabric?! We have it in stock at StitchCraft.

For anyone in the recently-completed $10 BOM, here are close ups of Block 12:

Our next Ten Buck Block of the Month starts March 9, 2013 and will meet the second Saturday of each month. The design of the quilt will be a surprise to you - it is a sampler style quilt for confident beginners (and up!). Here's how it works - you pay $10 to start and if you keep up with us each month, that's all you pay! If you fall behind, you can pay $10 each time you miss a month. This year is going to be SWEET!!!! Sign up today by calling us at (561) 447-4147 or stopping by StitchCraft!

Your Best Machine Quilting

Do you wish you could quilt your own quilts rather than quilt by checkbook?  Do you wish you could make your machine quilting better?  Come join us at StitchCraft where Baby Lock educator Joan Clemons will be available to answer questions and share her wealth of quilting knowledge (and samples!)
Joan will have a hands-on lecture/demo on Friday and Saturday at 1:00.  No cost to attend - only an interest in quilting and sewing!  (and as you can see, there is financing available this Valentines/Presidents weekend!)  You'll fall in love with our machines!

Folkloric Blooms

We've been looking forward to this line, so we're happy to let you know that Sue Spargo's new fabric line for Robert Kaufman - Folkloric Blooms - is in stock at StitchCraft now! Designed in collaboration with her sister Wendy, the collection features Sue's signature "funky folky" style and incorporates bold geometrics inspired by the sisters' African roots. We just love the style and the rich colors!

We also have a re-stock of Sue Spargo's latest book, "Creative Stitches." It's a great resource for new or experienced stitchers!

Will you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

UPDATE!! Welcome to Sesame Street fabric by Quilting Treasures is now in stock! (Jan 14, 2013)

I learned to read by watching Sesame Street, as it was introduced in 1969 when I was three (please do not do the math.)  I just love the characters and enjoyed many repeated hours of Elmo when my boys were little.  So you can imagine my inability to resist ordering quilt shop quality Sesame Street fabric!!

Should be showing up at the StitchCraft doorstep any time now - can't wait!

Brought to you by the letter Q!

StitchCraft Show and Tell

It's been a while since I snapped photos of some of the amazing projects that our talented customers bring in for Show and Tell.  Here are a few that I took with my iPhone (hence the less-than-stellar photo quality.)
Claire was a long time sewist, having made clothing - even her suits - for many years.  She came in to StitchCraft with a friend and decided she wanted to learn to quilt.  And quilt she did!  Claire has been creating some beautiful quilts for her family members, who are very proud and enjoy seeing her on blog posts (yes, she is one hip Grandma!)  Let me note that the colors in the photo do not do her quilt justice.

Howard wanted to sew his own mens shirts and learned to create his own pattern to best fit.  He then mastered zippered cushions for his home.  One lucky gal will be the recipient of this great Ellen Medlock bag (with Ellen's fabric as well.)  I believe she is getting a skirt too (or am I spoiling a surprise or getting him in trouble?)

Updated Calendar!

Welcome to 2013!! Did you make a resolution to learn something new this year? Or to work on those unfinished objects? Make some new friends or pick up a new hobby? We can help!

We have several classes and events coming up that have been posted on our Calendar.  Don't forget that Friday Sit and Sew and Sophia Club are also great ways to pick up new things, meet new people, and get inspired!

Floriani's Quilting and Embroidery Masters Tour is stopping by StitchCraft on January 24 and 25, 2013, and seats are filling up quickly! This is a great event for all skill levels. Complete details are HERE.

We also have another round of Quilting 101 and 201 starting up, and one-day classes like Rag Quilts, the always popular Holiday Table Runner series, Binding Basics, and Braid in a Day. Check out all the classes HERE!

Want to take a Beginning Quilting class but can't make the evening session starting April 3? We're putting together a daytime Beginning Quilting class - please let us know if you're interested, and when we have enough folks we'll have the class!

Do you have a suggestion for a class you think we should offer? Please let us know!
