Love Wins! A Free Paper Pieced Heart Pattern
Tammie has shared her free paper pieced heart quilt block pattern, Love Wins!, for those looking to make blocks or quilts to help comfort those affected by the massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016.
You may have heard of Quilts For Pulse, a quilt drive organized by the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild to give quilts to the survivors, families, and first responders. StitchCraft is a collection point for donations of blocks, fabric, batting, cash, etc., for the South Florida Modern Quilt Guild., who will then deliver finished quilts to the Orlando guild. Read about SFMQG's participation in the quilt drive here.
You can download the heart template for free by clicking here. Print the pattern at actual size to make 6" finished blocks. This template assumes you know how to paper piece; sorry, no additional instruction is given. We have fat quarter bundles available at StitchCraft if you love the sample shown here!
It is extraordinary to see how the quilting community has pulled together to try to provide peace during this tragedy. Our thoughts and support are with everyone affected.

Simple Whatnots Club 5
The
next installment of Kim Diehl's Simple Whatnots Club starts in July!
Each month for 6 months participants receive a kit to make a complete
small quilt - including the pattern and fabric for the front, back, and
binding. This is always a popular club, and this is the last time the
club will feature small quilts! (Starting in 2017 each month will
feature blocks that get put together at the end to make one large
quilt.) Find more information and sign up here!

Patchwork in Fashion
So I eat, sleep, breath quilting. I know I am not alone. I have had conversations with many of you - trading stories and photos on our phones of quilt patterns we see on our travels in sidewalks, wall mosaics and church ceilings. In the many catalogs that have been stuffing my mailbox lately, in addition to the pages I have landed on while internet surfing, I have noticed patchwork in fashion High fashion. It makes me giggle a bit, so I thought I would share some of the photos I have found.

Five buildings in a city grand
Five different shades of the color blue
Five happy penguins playing in the zoo
Five modern blocks that you design
Five blooming flowers hanging on a vine

The creative result is up to you!
A quilt. A bag. An objet d'art.
Whatever comes from your mind and your heart.
You have 'til September first to get it done.
For an invite to our tea that is lots of fun.
Get out of the heat and sit down and sew.
We appreciate our customers more than you know.
For more guidelines and to see the photographs from previous challenges, visit our challenge page here.

Moda's Piece and Comfort Challenge
We are happy to have been a participating shop in Moda's Piece and Comfort Challenge. Quilters were to use a Moda fabrics, with the majority being from their Because of the Brave or Red White and Free fabric collections. Proceeds from these fabric sales benefit USA Cares, a program that supports military families.
We are hanging the quilts in our shop and posting them online for YOU to vote on your favorite. Voting and display will be open from April 6th through the 18th. The winning local quilt will be submitted to the Moda online contest. Everyone really wins in this contest, as the finished quilts will go to deserving veterans of the quilters choice, whether a personal connection or through a national organization like Quilts of Valor.

We had four local quilters turn in quilts to StitchCraft for the challenge. Their information and inspiration is featured below their quilt. Leave a comment here on the blog, on our Facebook page or at the shop with your name favorite.

quilted by: Linda Wilson
name of quilt: Red, White and Free
I am inspired by all of the challenges faced by military families. they work hard to make up for the missed events, the uncertainty of deployment, the challenges of not knowing where you will be moving to next. I am a member of a
Quilt of Valor workshop and I sew to let service members and veterans know that they are appreciated for their service and sacrifice. This quilt will be donated to the family of William VanHuss, my son in law and a member of the Air Force.

"To those who server, have served in the past, and to those that will serve in the future... Thank you!"

name of quilt: Remembrance
"My grandfather, father, husband and son have all been career military. I also am a member of many military service organizations. the fabric inspired me to honor all our military as 'stars'. "
Letty Covar
quilted by: Susan Freudenthal
name of quilt: Chausette
" 'Chausette' was inspired by me dear husband Jim Kirkpatrick. He was a proud soldier who was hit in Vietnam. He was never quite the same. We spent 3 years and 21 operations at Coatsville Vet hospital and Walter Reed Medical center. Jim recovered from most of his physical injuries. In the end, however, the long term effects of Agent Orange took him early. He was never properly thanked for his valor. So chausette is a small tribute to his service. the hues and patterns of the Moda 'Because of the Brave' collection express what I feel when I think of Jim. Cookie's Star pattern was the perfect format.
